Not So Wordless Wednesday: Krakow #4

Next to the Cloth Hall in the city center of Krakow, Poland (see last week's picture) you will find the Kosciol Mariacki, or St. Mary's Basilica, a towering cathedral that was built in the 13th century. Unfortunately, photography was not allowed inside, but like many churches in Poland, the alter and the stained glass is breathtaking. The famous wooden alterpiece in St. Mary's is 262 feet tall! Every hour, a trumpeter plays a signal from the bell tower that breaks off mid-tune to commemorate the famous trumpeter that was shot in the throat while sounding an alarm of a Mongol attack in the 13th century. The history in these places levels me.

Right next to the church was this fellow trying to make some extra cash. We had no idea how we was creating this illusion. Funny story - my husband's nephew, who was with us on this trip, actually knew this guy from somewhere and talked to him later. He was able to pry the secret from his friend after a beer or two.

That second photo is crazy! I've been looking and looking at it. Glad someone unlocked the man's mystery -- I'm intrigued!

I am thinking that there was a harness on the chain that he was hanging on? I am going to be thinking about this all day now!

And those spires are simply amazing!

Pry the secret from your husband's nephew! :) That is freaky!

The story about the trumpeter is sad. I wonder though if hearing the trumpet every hour gets old for the residents, or if they are able to just tune it out as background noise after a while.

Oh, I love the picture of the church. The illusionist has me very curious.

Seriously, how did he do that?

Wow, that illusion is something else. I would definitely be stopping to check that out.

How on earth did he do that? That is amazing!

Was he actually floating or is this one of those painted on the ground, 3D numbers. He is actually sitting on the ground, right?

So were you able to pry the secret out of the nephew? And if so, how many beers did it cost you?
